“Spin-orbit splitting of Andreev states in a Josephson weak link”

ABSTRACT: A Finding qubit with long coherence times and high controllability is a long-standing goal in quantum information science and condensed matter physics. Spin degree of freedom confined by a superconducting gap has been considered as a new resource for such qubits. In this talk, I will present our recent theoretical and experimental studies on spin-split Andreev states in a semiconducting nanowire Josephson junction performed in collaboration with an experimental group. I provide a theoretical model for the junction which takes into account Rashba spin-orbit coupling in the nanowire containing several transverse subbands, identifying the spin-orbit splitting of Andreev states. The theory allows us to understand the response of the microwave resonator coupled to the junction observed in circuit quantum electrodynamics experiments. Finally, I discuss the possible uses of the Andreev spin states as a new superconducting qubit.

“Which quantum states can describe geometries? — a topological perspective”

ABSTRACT: A hundred years ago, Einstein taught us that gravity is a dynamical theory of spacetime geometry. The last 15 years of research have added a remarkable sequel to that lesson: there is strong evidence that the dynamical spacetime geometry is woven by quantum entanglement. But not all quantum entanglement can make up a geometry; some states have an entanglement structure, which cannot be consistently represented as a spacetime geometry. In this talk, I present progress done in my research group in characterizing which quantum states can / cannot define spacetime geometries. The new results involve a broad range of concepts, from black hole evaporation to tessellations of two-dimensional manifolds. Their many applications include a topological bound on entropies of 2+1-dimensional black holes and even a new theorem in graph theory. The main theme of this development is the discovery of novel, topological properties of holographic error correcting codes.

“Introduction to Superconducting Quantum Computers”

ABSTRACT: Quantum technology – in particularly quantum computing – have been gaining a lot of attention recently. While quantum physics is commonly studied with various applications, quantum information opens a new field of computing with the potential to revolutionize the modern world. In my talk, I will introduce what is a quantum computer and how to build one. I will also introduce how one can control the qubits using quantum gates and how to create these gates. Lastly, I will show some recent work on variational quantum eigensolves (VQE) done for nuclear pairing calculations using quantum simulators.

“Satellites for quantum communications”

ABSTRACT: Quantum mechanics has opened the way to the implementation of protocols whose security depends on the very laws of physics. The high fragility of quantum states to losses makes the use of satellites fundamental to implement these protocols on a global scale. This presentation will make a short review of the state of the art of satellite quantum communication, with particular focus on simulation methods and on the status of current research at Sorbonne University. Then, it will provide a short overview of new directions that the research in the field might take in the near future.
